Privacy notice
This notice explains how kids.uktaxdrag.co.uk — the free, ad-free financial-education subdomain of UK Tax Drag for children, parents and teachers — handles information. It is run by Finsolve Consulting Limited (registered in England and Wales, company no. 15562432), which is the data controller.
We have written it in plain English so that a parent, a teacher, or an older child can understand it. We follow UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), and the Information Commissioner's Office Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code).
The short version
- This site shows no advertising of any kind and uses no advertising cookies. We never profile children for ads.
- We do not ask children for any personal information. There is no account, no sign-up, no login, no newsletter, and no contact form for children.
- The games, quizzes and the Money Passport save your progress only inside your own browser, on your own device. That information is never sent to us or anyone else.
- We use one optional analytics cookie (Google Analytics) to count, in aggregate, which lessons are useful. In the UK and EEA it stays off until you choose “Accept”. You can change your mind at any time.
- We do not sell or share data, and we use no affiliate links.
Information we do not collect
We deliberately keep this site high-privacy by design. We do not collect names, email addresses, postal addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, photographs, school details, or location. We do not create user accounts or profiles. We do not ask children to register, sign in, subscribe, or message us. Because there is nothing for a child to fill in, there is no child personal data for us to store, lose or misuse.
Cookies and on-device storage
We use the smallest possible set of first-party storage, and nothing for advertising:
- Your cookie choice (
tdx-consent): a single first-party cookie that simply remembers whether you said yes or no to analytics, so we do not ask again. It lasts up to 180 days, contains no personal information, and is never shared. - Learning progress (browser
localStorage): the Money Passport, quiz best-scores and your light/dark theme choice are saved only in your browser on this device. They are never transmitted to us or any third party. They stay on the device, which is why progress does not follow a child between devices or shared computers. - Essential function: storage strictly needed for the search box and interactive activities to work. This holds no personal data.
You can delete all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for kids.uktaxdrag.co.uk, or by using your browser's privacy settings. Clearing it will reset saved progress and your cookie choice.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-Q6QGBZHCXJ) to understand, in aggregate, which lessons and ages are most used so we can improve them. We run it with Google Consent Mode v2:
- For visitors in the UK and EEA, analytics is set to denied by default. No analytics cookie is set and no analytics data is collected unless you choose “Accept” on the cookie banner.
- IP addresses are anonymised, and advertising signals are permanently denied for everyone — there is no advertising on this domain to use them.
- We only look at aggregated, non-identifying trends (for example “the budgeting lesson for ages 10-13 was viewed more this term”). We do not attempt to identify individual visitors or children.
Where analytics is used, our lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can refuse it, or withdraw it later, using “Reject all” or the “Manage cookie preferences” button above, with no effect on the lessons. Google's handling of analytics data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Children's privacy and the ICO Children's Code
This site is likely to be accessed by children, so we apply the ICO Children's Code as our standard:
- Best interests of the child first. Content and defaults are designed to support a child's learning and wellbeing, not to extract data or attention.
- Data minimisation. We collect no personal data from children at all — the strongest possible form of minimisation.
- High privacy by default. Analytics is off by default in the UK; there is no behavioural advertising, no profiling of children, and no geolocation.
- No nudge techniques. We do not use design tricks to push children towards lower-privacy options or to keep them engaged for engagement's sake.
- Transparency. This notice, and the cookie banner, are written in clear, age-appropriate language.
Links to other websites
Some pages link to our main site at uktaxdrag.co.uk (intended for adults — parents and teachers), and to trusted organisations such as GOV.UK, HMRC and MoneyHelper. Those sites have their own privacy notices and we are not responsible for their content or practices. Tools and calculators for adults live on the main site, which carries its own, separate privacy notice.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to, and port personal data we hold about you. Because we do not hold accounts or contact details for visitors, and analytics data is aggregated and not used to identify anyone, in practice there is normally no personal data for us to retrieve or delete. If you believe we hold information about you, contact us (below) and we will help.
